In 1964, British company AEC started producing the new 6×4 dump truck AEC 690, which was developed together with another British manufacture – Thornycroft. In 1969, Aveling-Barford joined to mass production of this model.
14-ton dumper was fitted with a 6-cylinder British Leyland AV691 diesel rated at 187 hp at 2000 rpm. Aveling-Barford AB690 was almost identical to other dumpers of 690-series. The production ended in 1976 with 440 was made.
