The enhanced interior, which goes into full production in July 2012, boasts Kenworth’s first Smart Wheel, a steering wheel with finger-tip controls for crucial functions. It also includes a curved and redesigned dash and overhead console as well as increased storage. In addition, there is a wrap-around privacy curtain, and more roomy and functional driver and sleeper environments.
Kenworth says the interior is the result of a collaborative effort which draws on its more than four decades of manufacturing experience as well as the day to day experience of many customers. Kenworth has now taken advantage of that extra space by redesigning the lower section of the dash. This provides the driver with even greater comfort and access to more cab conveniences. These include repositioning the cup holders and adding handy storage for holding personal items, such as a mobile phone, wallet and keys. There is also a separate slot for commonly-used documents, such as a work diary or manifest, all within arm’s length.
