In 1999, the BM501 dump truck was updated. The new model was called Astra RD28. It has an increased payload of 28 tonnes (versus 25 of its predecessor). Body capacity is 13.5 m3. The truck is equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder 13.8-liter IVECO 8210 diesel engine rated at 304 hp, an Allison automatic 5- or 6-speed gearbox with an integrated hydrodynamic retarder, dual main gears and wheel reducers, all disc brakes and suspension with hydropneumatic cylinders.
