Chevrolet Series 5000 / 7000 / 9000 LCF
In 1955 the new LCF (Low-Cab-Forward) model came to replace old COE (Cab-Over-Engine). The stubby trucks were a cross between the conventional models and the true COEs. These trucks were designed to work in tight quarters, where a short wheelbase heavy duty truck was an advantage. The weight rating was 1.5, 2 and 2.5-tons.
The LCF trucks were available only with V8 engines. The 5000 and 7000 series were equipped with Taskmaster V8 155 hp engine and 4-speed transmission, and the heavies series 9000 was equipped with Loadmaster V8 195 hp engine with 5-speed transmission. In factory form, the shortest wheelbase trucks would have had a gas tank located under the driver’s seat, but in most usage, saddle tanks would have been used.
The model range included:
- 5100 – 2-ton model with 112-inch wheelbase and GVW of 8845 kg.
