Reliable trucks of a Swiss company Saurer have been importing to the UK since 1907. In 1931, the Aviation Industry Group Armstrong Whitworth bought a license in Switzerland and began to build such machines under the brand name Armstrong-Saurer. The lineup included 5BL series trucks, which have been developed in Switzerland in 1928. All components were supplied by French division of Swiss company.
Some later, the Armstrong-Saurer re-equipped 2-axle models in 3- and 4-axis versions Dynamic, Dominant and Samson with a carrying capacity of up to 15 tonnes. Heavy machines with unassuming appearance and outdated petrol engines did not have much success in the domestic market, and in 1937 their assembly was discontinued.
