In 1957, Aveling Barford presented the SL series. A two-axle truck with 6-cylinder Leyland diesel engine and reversible controls, it had grown from the original 13.5-ton SL200 model to the 17-ton SL340 with 201 hp engine and five forward and three reverse speeds.
SL200 produced from 1953 to 1959, when the 15-ton SL270 came to replace it. This model produced till 1964. Then it was replaced by 15-ton SL300. SL340 was the last model in the range. About 3000 copies of all models were made.
