China National Heavy Duty Truck Corporation, or CNHTC, is a major Chinese manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, dump trucks, and tractors with GVWs of up to 60 tons, as well as special vehicles and buses. CNHTC comprises around 20 companies of various sizes located throughout China. Most of these are small plants engaged in assembling vehicles and manufacturing diesel engines under license from Cummins, Fuller, ZF, Rockwell, and others. Their combined annual production exceeds 15,000 vehicles and 60,000–70,000 diesel engines.
The headquarters of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (CNHTC) is located in Jinan, Shandong Province, P.R. China. The company is known for developing and manufacturing China’s first heavy-duty truck, the "Huanghe" JN150, for successfully introducing the Steyr heavy-duty truck production project, and for establishing a joint venture with Volvo to manufacture heavy-duty trucks to modern international standards.
CNHTC was founded on the basis of Jinan Automobile Works (JAW). JAW was established in 1935 and initially focused mainly on manufacturing truck spare parts. In 1956, it began developing and manufacturing heavy-duty trucks, and in April 1963, it became the first Chinese manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks under the "Huanghe" brand, with the JN150 model having an 8-ton payload capacity. On January 18, 2001, following a series of reforms and restructuring measures, CNHTC established a new corporate structure and began operating as a modern enterprise.
