A.B.A.M.
Germany: 1899 - 1905
In 1898, Louis Welter, the German electrical engineer and founder of the electrical engineering company Louis Welter & Co. obtained a license to produce French Kriéger electric cars.

Welter turned to the company KAW located in Cologne and specializing in electric accumulators, to develop a lightweight battery, which was ready in 1899.

This led to the creation of Kölner Electricitäts-AG (KEW), Then, the results were encouraging, led the two firms to join to create the manufacturer A.B.A.M. (Allgemeine Betriebsgesellschaft für Motorfahrzeuge) in 1900, and launch a Taxi service in Cologne with their own automobiles.

A.B.A.M. built electric trucks with electric wheel hub motors. Their vehicles were used in many German cities, but also in Paris.

KEW mainly built commercial vehicles such as electric trucks, hotel buses and electric vans for the "Reichspost".
