Atkinson had set up various overseas subsidiaries and in the 1960s increased its Lancashire facilities with the acquisition of Atherton Bros., general engineers who also made concrete mixers for truck chassis.

Their construction methods suited the assembly of dump trucks and these vehicles had become known as Hylodes in 1965 when Peter Hamilton Equipment Ltd. placed a one-million pound order and became distributor for Hylodes. 10 and 14 cu. yd. versions were offered, usually with Cummins engines.

Full and half cab versions were available. Some heavy slag carriers and dump trucks were also built on four axle chassis as well ultra heavy-duty tractors T7566C with GCW of 75 tons
